Black Death Massacres in Swabia
1349·Ravensbourg
The toll is reproduced exactly as the source states it — never rounded, never added to another. Tolls overlap from one event to the next.
the community destroyed
The community of Ravensburg was destroyed during the Black Death.
An imperial city of Upper Swabia, Ravensburg later became the seat of a great merchant company; its Jewish life did not reconstitute itself before the modern era.
The community lived by lending to drapers and linen merchants; its debts passed to the burghers after the massacre, as in the other Swabian towns.
