The community of Esslingen, on the Neckar, was burned during the Black Death.

An imperial city of Swabia, Esslingen held its Jews under the authority of the chamber of the King of the Romans; the massacre there was, as elsewhere, covered in advance.

The community had its synagogue near the wine market, and its moneylenders financed trade along the Neckar; the city's registers record the seizure of their houses by the burghers.
