the community destroyed
The community of Eisenach, at the foot of the Wartburg, was destroyed during the Black Death.
The landgraves of Thuringia, like the other princes, had secured possession of Jewish property before the wave reached their cities.
The community lived at the foot of the upper town and lent to merchants along the road connecting Hesse to Thuringia; it was not reconstituted until the following century.
