The community of Chemnitz was destroyed during the Black Death.

It appears in the lists of Saxon communities annihilated, alongside those of Zwickau and Freiberg, in the land of the silver mines.

The community, small in number, lent money to the drapers and merchants of the Bohemian road. Its houses reverted to the council after the massacre, and the city remained closed to Jews until the modern era.
