Rintfleisch Massacres
1298·Bad Wimpfen
The toll is reproduced exactly as the source states it — never rounded, never added to another. Tolls overlap from one event to the next.
the community destroyed
The community of Wimpfen, on the Neckar, was destroyed during the Rintfleisch massacres. The free imperial city had an ancient Jewish quarter whose synagogue is attested as early as the thirteenth century.
The Memorbücher of the Rhineland and Franconia, in which the names of the dead were recorded to be read aloud in the synagogue, are the principal source for this wave: it is through them that we know which localities were struck, and often nothing more. Wimpfen appears in them with its list.
