Description
Earthenware bowl bearing inside an Aramaic incantation written in a spiral from centre to rim, to guard the home against demons and the evil eye. Often buried inverted beneath the threshold, it names the family to be protected and sometimes depicts a bound demon at the centre. A Jewish practice of late-antique Babylonia.
