Description
Pair of candlesticks, often of silver, on which the mistress of the house kindles the Friday evening lights before sunset. Some families add one candle per child.
Significance
They mark the entrance of the Sabbath by the kindling of the lights, one of the most universal domestic rites of Judaism.
