Description

This table is a printed Hebrew perpetual calendar (luah), organizing the festivals, fasts, Torah readings, and significant dates according to the cycle of the Jewish year, which is based on a lunisolar computation. The Jewish calendar, with its lunar months and embolismic years, requires tables to determine the dates of the holy days and the sequence of the weekly Torah portions. These printed luhot were displayed in synagogues and homes to regulate the liturgical life of the community. A common yet essential object, it embodies the temporal structure that governs Jewish existence.
