Description

Torah scroll cover of the wealthy Sephardi and Ashkenazi communities of Amsterdam. Cut from velvet or silk, the mantle is richly embroidered in metallic thread with crowns, columns and baroque vases, and bears a Hebrew dedication. The splendor of these pieces reflects the prosperity of the Dutch congregations of the Golden Age.
