Description
Ceremonial belt of hinged plaques and worked clasp, worn by the bride over the ceremonial gown. In the Maghreb, Jewish silversmiths produced gilt-silver hzam chased with flowers and arabesques. A precious dowry item, the belt cinched the waist of the embroidered grand costume and was often handed down as an inheritance.
