Silver circumcision shield and clamp (magen)
Enrich the Great Bookמגן ופינצטה למילה מכסף
Description
Small slotted silver instrument the mohel places over the foreskin to protect the glans before the incision; the slot guides the blade of the izmel. Often paired with a clamp and kept in the mohel's case, the shield sometimes bears an inscription or hallmark. Its elongated form distinguishes Ashkenazi variants from the broader models of other rites.
