Description
Fabric cover enveloping the Torah scroll where the rigid tik is not used. Ottoman mantles are cut from velvet or brocade, embroidered in gold thread and sometimes pearls with floral motifs and a crown, plus a Hebrew dedication. Cylindrical and slit, they are topped with a stiff card disc through which the scroll's staves pass.
