Description
Wedding canopy under which the couple stands, here of velvet embroidered with gold thread in the Ottoman tradition, sometimes bearing blessing inscriptions. Stretched on four poles or suspended, it symbolizes the shared home. In the great Sephardi communities, the synagogue kept richly embroidered communal huppot lent to families.
