Rigid Torah Case (Tik) in Wood and Silver from Baghdad

Rigid cylindrical case enclosing the Torah scroll according to the custom of Mesopotamian communities, kept upright and opened like a book for reading. Baghdad examples have a wooden core entirely sheathed in repoussé and engraved silver plates with scrolls and inscribed cartouches. A crown, finials and pointer holder often complete the whole.
