Gold-thread embroidered tefillin bag from Salonika

Square bag of dark velvet embroidered in relief with gold and silver thread by the Sephardic workshops of Salonika. The flap often bears the owner's name, a crown, or the abbreviation for tefillin. Lined with silk, it protected the boxes and straps.
