Openwork-roof filigree wedding ring, Ottoman Empire
Enrich the Great Bookטבעת נישואין עם גג נפתח מסונן, האימפריה העות'מאנית
Description
Nuptial ring with a large building-shaped bezel, sometimes with an opening roof revealing the inscription "mazal tov", akin to the architectural rings of Italy but here in Ottoman filigree work. Too bulky for daily wear, it served the ritual of giving under the huppah. The edifice evoked the home or the Temple to be rebuilt.
