Omer counting board with rollers from Germany
Enrich the Great Bookלוח ספירת העומר
Description
This object serves for the counting of the Omer, the ritual count of the forty-nine days separating Pesach from Shavuot, each day being declared in the evening with its blessing. The roller type is a domestic or synagogal device fitted with a window and dials: by turning internal rollers inscribed with numbers, the current day and week are displayed. German examples combine a wooden case with printed paper strips, sometimes adorned with verses and motifs. These Omer counters testify to the ingenuity applied in the service of a precise and daily liturgical obligation.
