Painted Memorial Board (Yahrzeit) from Central Europe

Panel hung in the synagogue to recall the anniversary of community members' deaths, on which a memorial lamp is then lit in their name. These Ashkenazi painted-wood boards bear, in calligraphed columns, the names of the deceased and the Hebrew date, sometimes under a pediment adorned with funerary emblems or verses of remembrance.
