Printed menorah diagram of Psalm 67 (Lamnatseah)
Enrich the Great Bookמנורת למנצח
Description
This leaf depicts a seven-branched candelabrum (menorah) whose form is traced by the letters of Psalm 67 ("Lamnatseah binginot"), reputed to bring good fortune and protection. The arrangement of the psalm in the shape of a menorah, attested from early on in Jewish devotion, made this text a visual amulet considered efficacious, sometimes attributed to King David. Widespread among Sephardic and Eastern communities, this type of printed leaf was carried on one's person, slipped into a prayer book, or displayed in the home for its protective virtue. It belongs to the culture of popular piety objects combining sacred text, image, and protection.
