Description
Long linen band girding the Torah scroll, made in the Ashkenazi rite from the child's circumcision swaddling cloth. Beside embroidery, usage in the Czech lands often favored hand-painting: the child's name, birth date and the blessing of Torah, marriage and good deeds are inscribed, illustrated with a wedding canopy and scrolls.
