Description
Painting or embroidered textile bearing the word mizrah (east) and verses, hung on the east wall of a house to indicate the direction of prayer toward Jerusalem. It differs from the paper cutout by its textile technique.
Significance
It orients domestic prayer toward Jerusalem and participates in the beautification of the mitzvah (hiddur mitzvah).
