Ottoman openwork-silver Purim rattle

Enrich the Great Book

רעשן פורים מכסף מחורר מהאימפריה העות'מאנית

Description

Ceremonial rattle of openwork and chased silver, with a wrought handle and a body pierced with flowers and crescents. More precious than wooden models, it belonged to well-off Sephardi families of Istanbul or Izmir. Shaken to blot out Haman's name, it joins the Purim tradition with the luxury of Ottoman silverware.
