Description
A small bead or plaque of blue glass in the shape of an eye, mounted as a pendant and worn against the evil eye (ayin ha-ra). Shared by Jews, Greeks and Turks of the Empire, it was often paired with a hamsa or a Hebrew amulet. A popular protective jewel of the eastern Sephardic communities.
