Description
Monumental cabinet housing the Torah scrolls, set against the synagogue's eastern wall. Italian cabinetmakers turned it into a veritable baroque altarpiece, with twisted columns, broken pediments and abundant gilding, sometimes crowned by the Tablets of the Law. The carved doors open onto a fabric-lined interior; an engraved inscription dedicates the whole.
