Description

Circular silver plate intended to receive the newborn or the instruments during the brit milah. The center bears a repoussé floral motif and a Hebrew inscription drawn from the covenant, the scalloped rim carrying scrolls and finials in Ottoman taste. Commissioned by well-off families of the great Sephardi communities, such plates also served as a gift to the mohel.
