Niello silver mezuzah case from the Caucasus
Enrich the Great Bookבית מזוזה מכסף בניאלו מהקווקז
Description
Mezuzah case decorated by the niello technique — inlay of a black alloy into engraved silver — dear to Caucasian silversmiths, among them the Mountain Jews (Tats). The dark contrast brings out scrolls and inscriptions. A refined regional variant of metal cases.
