Description
Cloth covering the reading table of the central platform during the service, on which the Torah is unrolled. In Ottoman Sephardi synagogues it is embroidered in gold thread on velvet or silk, with arabesques and a crown, matching the ark curtain and desk cover. It protects the wood and enhances the community's liturgical center.
