Marriage acquisition kerchief (kinyan)

Enrich the Great Book

מטפחת קניין לטקס הקידושין

Description

Cloth or kerchief grasped by the parties during the "kinyan sudar", the symbolic act sealing the commitments stated in the ketubah or the betrothal. The rabbi hands over the object, whose grasping constitutes legal acceptance. Plain by nature, it could nonetheless be embroidered and kept as a memento of the marriage agreement.
