Description
Double-edged blade mounted on a precious handle of agate or hardstone banded with silver, the hard material being held a favourable omen. Distinct from mother-of-pearl or bone handled models, this Eastern type was kept in the mohel's case. The decoration of the handle expressed the importance attached to the child's entry into the covenant.
