Description
Ark curtain of the great Sephardi community of Salonika, famed for its embroidery. On dark velvet, the decoration combines gold thread with fine seed-pearl embroidery, drawing arches, flowering vases and inscriptions. The couching and pearl technique, inherited from Spain and enriched through Ottoman contact, marks the Salonika works.
