Kiddush cup engraved with the Western Wall, from the Holy Land

Enrich the Great Book

כוס קידוש

Description

This goblet was used for the blessing of wine (Kiddush) pronounced on Shabbat and the festivals, and bears an engraved view of the Western Wall and other holy sites of Jerusalem. Made in the Holy Land, it belongs to the production of pilgrimage souvenirs brought or sent from Jerusalem in the nineteenth and twentieth centuries, combining ritual function with Memory of the sanctuaries. The depiction of the Western Wall (Kotel), remnant of the Temple and the holiest site accessible to Jewish prayer, endowed the cup with particular symbolic significance. The object embodies the unbreakable bond of the diaspora with Jerusalem and the Temple.
