Description
Ceremonial forehead band worn by the young Ashkenazi wife after marriage, embroidered with pearls and sometimes set with stones. Marking her new status as a married woman, it accompanied the headdress covering the hair. In well-off Galician families the sterntichl could represent a notable part of the dowry.
