Description
Picture hung on the eastern wall of a home or synagogue to mark the direction of prayer, toward Jerusalem. The papercut art so lively in Galicia displays a symmetrical composition of lions, eagles, columns and menorahs framing the word mizrah and verses, often heightened with watercolor. Made by yeshiva students or pious amateurs.
