Enrich the Great Bookחותם
Description
This mold, or stamp seal, is a wooden board carved in intaglio used to print a raised decorative pattern onto festive cake dough, particularly gingerbread (German: Lebkuchen) offered at weddings and other celebrations. The use of shaped cakes adorned family celebrations in the Ashkenazi world. Central European molds depict bridal couples, animals, flowers, hearts, or symbols of blessing and fertility, sometimes accompanied by inscriptions. This object belongs to the culinary material culture of Jewish festivals and bears witness to the craft of sculpted woodwork in the service of the ceremonial table.
