Illuminated ketubah, Ottoman Empire (Istanbul)
Enrich the Great Bookכתובה מעוטרת, האימפריה העות'מאנית (איסטנבול)
Description
Marriage contract of the Empire's great Sephardi communities, decorated in the Ottoman tradition: flowering vases, tulips and carnations, scrolling borders. The central Hebrew-Aramaic text is often crowned by an arch and flanked by cartouches of verses. The wording of the financial stipulations reflects Sephardi usages inherited from the Iberian peninsula.
