Description
Small flag carried by children during the joyous processions of Simhat Torah, the festival rejoicing in the Law. Printed or hand-painted, these Ashkenazi banners depict lions, flags, festival verses and sometimes the Torah crown, and an apple with a lit candle was often fixed at the top. An ephemeral object of Jewish popular culture.
