Description
Worked casket meant to present to the bride the gifts (sivlonot) sent by the groom-to-be before the wedding. Chased with floral motifs and sometimes Hebrew inscriptions, it belonged to the decorative arts of prosperous Italian Jewish families. The ritual of sending gifts marked the stages from engagement to marriage.
