Description

Cloth covering the sloping top of the reading desk during the service, placed beneath the open scroll. In Moroccan synagogues it is embroidered in gold thread on velvet, with arabesques, flowering vases or a star, matching the ark curtain. Often donated by a family, it sometimes bears a short dedication or the Hebrew date.
