For several days, the small town is the scene of a street-by-street hunt, fugitives shot in courtyards and doorways. The hospital doctor keeps his journal hour by hour and records what he sees from his window: this testimony, published after the war, is one of the most precise accounts we have of a liquidation seen from within a town.
