Rabbi David Kimhi (vers 1160–1235), surnommé le Radak, était un grammairien et exégète actif à Narbonne. Son manuel de grammaire et son dictionnaire, le Mikhlol et le Sefer haShorashim, firent autorité durant des siècles. Ses commentaires bibliques, clairs et méthodiques, combinent grammaire, sens littéral et polémique antichrétienne, et influencèrent les humanistes hébraïsants de la Renaissance.
