Rothenburg ob der Tauber, ville impériale médiévale de Bavière, possédait une communauté juive documentée dès le XIIe siècle, avec une synagogue et un mikvé mis au jour par l'archéologie. La communauté fut expulsée au XVe siècle ; le mikvé médiéval, restauré, est aujourd'hui ouvert au public.
