Bibliographe qui consacra une vingtaine d'années à l'« Otzar ha-Sefer ha-Ivri » (Thesaurus of the Hebrew Book), inventaire décrivant environ 32 000 livres hébreux imprimés dans le monde des débuts de l'imprimerie jusqu'en 1863 (éd. informatisée : 1468–1948). Il publia aussi un thésaurus des livres du Gaon de Vilna et un siddur (Ezor Eliyahu). Son œuvre demeure de référence.
