Mathématicien polonais d'origine juive, né et mort à Varsovie (tué par une bombe allemande en septembre 1939). Ses travaux portent surtout sur l'algèbre et l'histoire des mathématiques ; sa bibliographie compte plus de 200 titres. Il fonde la revue Wiadomości Matematyczne et co-lance en 1884 une série de manuels de mathématiques en polonais. Il fut aussi cofondateur du parti juif assimilationniste Zjednoczenie.
