Gaon de Soura, premier grand philosophe juif. Son Livre des croyances et des opinions (Emounot ve-Deot) fonde la philosophie juive rationnelle. Il traduisit la Bible en arabe (Tafsir) et combattit le karaïsme. Figure intellectuelle majeure du judaïsme médiéval.
