Considéré comme l'un des grands savants marocains de son temps, rabbin de Salé puis de Rabat (1780), où il entretint une importante yeshiva qui perdura après sa mort. Ses responsa, portant surtout sur le Ḥoshen Mishpat et en partie sur l'Even ha-Ezer, constituent une source précieuse pour l'histoire des Juifs du Maroc.
