Christian Günther, comte de Bernstorff, est un homme d'État danois puis prussien né le 3 avril 1769 à Copenhague et mort le 28 mars 1835. Entré en 1787 dans la diplomatie grâce à son père, le comte Andreas Bernstorff, il sert à Berlin de 1789 à 1794 puis à Stockholm, devient secrétaire d'État en 1797, puis premier ministre du Danemark de 1800 à 1810; représentant du Danemark à Vienne de 1811 à 1815, il y plaide l'émancipation des Juifs du Holstein au Congrès de Vienne, avant d'être nommé en 1818 ministre prussien des Affaires étrangères, poste qu'il occupe jusqu'à sa retraite en 1832.
