Les Juifs de Bogotá (Colombie)

The Jewish community of Colombia, concentrated in Bogotá as well as Barranquilla, Cali and Medellín, formed in the 19th and 20th centuries through immigration of Sephardim from the Levant and North Africa and Ashkenazim from Eastern and Central Europe, some fleeing persecutions of the 1930s. Established in commerce, import-export and industry, its members integrated into the country's economic life. The community organized itself into distinct congregations reflecting its origins and equipped itself with active community and school institutions. Remaining small in size, it remains a structured, principally urban community.
