Ancienne capitale du Souss entourée de remparts saâdiens, Taroudant abritait un important mellah dont les familles juives étaient réputées pour l'orfèvrerie en argent et le commerce des produits du Souss. La communauté se maintint jusqu'au XXe siècle avant d'émigrer vers Casablanca et Israël.
