Fondée vers 1803 à Presbourg par le rav Moshe Sofer, le « Chatam Sofer », elle fut la plus influente yeshiva d'Europe centrale et le bastion de l'orthodoxie hongroise face à la Réforme. Refondée à Jérusalem après la Shoah par le rav Akiva Sofer.
