A white supremacist gunman opened fire outside the Jewish community center of Overland Park, then outside a nearby Jewish retirement home. Three people were killed.
None of them were Jewish: a doctor and his grandson who had come for an audition, a woman who had come to visit her mother. The case showed that antisemitic hatred also strikes those it targets by mistake, and the victims' families made this publicly clear during the trial.
